Yosef Shemesh, a 48-year old married father of two, was diagnosed 18 months ago with a rare type of lung cancer. He had to stop working and received full disability.
Conventional treatments were ineffective on Yossi and he began immunotherapy treatment, which greatly improved his condition. He was subsequently operated on to remove one lobe and two ribs.
The surgery and immunotherapy have given him a large chance for survival.
Yosef's doctors have recommended that samples from his lung be sent abroad for advanced genetic testing that will enable an exact match of medicines to his condition, in order to prevent the disease from recurring.
The testing and matching are very expensive and must be done private.
Their cost is 129,000 NIS.
