Art Therapy Workshop for Soldiers and Victims of Terror
At Haverim we share a goal for 'Tikun Olam'; to improve and repair our world.
The non profit organization Haverim ('Friends for Health') was created in 2013 with the target of providing free medication, devices, advice and help to sick and needy people in Israel.
For the last 9 years, every Wednesday our volunteers gather at the Rehabilitation Department at Tel Hashomer hospital, where we offer the patients a free Art Therapy Workshop.
The patients mirror Israeli society; soldiers, terror victims, Haredi, religious, Arabs, Druze and Christians of all ages gather together for therapeutic painting.
Our 'art students' are hospitalized for weeks and months on end, far from home, struggling every day to return to their mental and physical abilities. They repeatedly tell us how the weekly art workshops are like a ray of sunlight in the hospital routine.
All the personnel manning the project are volunteers.
We are seeking funds only for the purchase of the canvases, paint brushes, paints and easels.
Eran, a soldier wounded in Operation Protective Edge told us: "After losing my right arm I started painting with my left. It turned out better than any physiotherapy, not just for my body, mostly for my mind."
Eran won't be able to complete his dream trip to the Himalayas, so he painted them instead.
The cost of canvases, paint, paintbrushes and easels is 20NIS. per participant. Total cost of equipment per year is $12,000 NIS.
Any donation is welcome.
