Medication Recycling Project of
Haverim - Friends for Health
dedicated to the memory of Eli Eliezer Levy Z"l
(5/10/10)
Nine years Eli fought cancer until his body just couldn't cope anymore.
He died on 21.4.2010, 7 Iyar 5770, and was 75.
Just a few days after his death the family gathered up 12 bags full of medications and brought them to the offices of Haverim.
The medicine recycling project.
How do medicines that are donated get to the patients?
The medicines that come to the office go through a check of package integrity and dates. The names and details that are written on the meds are crossed off, and they are put into storage in the medicine room or in the drawer in the refrigerator. At the same time the office turns to patients who need the medicines and can't afford them.
We are speaking about difficult cancer patients or chronically ill patients. They send us the prescriptions and the staff in charge of medicines prepares packages of medications. The meds are gotten to the patients by hand, either by an emissary or by registered mail in a padded envelope. All of this is with no financial participation on the part of the patient.

It has to be noted that a large amount of the donated medicines (especially
the expensive ones) don't reach the offices of the organization, rather they are given straight from the donor to the patient. Also in these instances the donor turns to the organization, the patient who needs it sends a prescription by fax to our office and only after, checking out all the details the facts of the donor are given.
In the year 2009 almost 13 million shekel of medicines were given to patients as a result of this project. Of this: 10 million were given to 802 cancer patients, another 3 million shekel were given to 2791 chronically ill patients. Since the establishment of the project an estimated 38 million shekel worth of medicines was transferred to patients.
Enat, Eli's daughter says "Aba was a generous person who loved to help. From out of the mourning and the sadness we are glad that we could continue his ways and donate the medications and help others fight for their lives."

Eli Eliezer Levy – Brief Biography

We Mourn the Loss of the Head of our Family
Eli was born to Reuven and Ester in Turkey in 1934. He was a great brother-in-law, a wonderful husband, a devoted father to a son and daughter, and a sabba full of life and significance to his 2 granddaughters. An impressive presence to his extended family and friends. His manner, his actions, and his relationships always inspired respect and appreciation. Known for his good heart and for generously helping others.
With his passing, he left a terrible void in the lives of all who knew him. In his work places as director of finance and investments; as well as in his day-to-day life. Taken from us by his illness, to the grief of his family, and to the sorrow of all his loved ones and acquaintances. Eli is always in our hearts and we will forever love him and miss him. Just as he gave so much in life, he also gave in his death. May his donation save people's lives.
May his memory be a blessing. |
