New Chessed Pharmacy to Open from
"Haverim - Friends for Health"
Almost 13 million shekel worth of medicines was given to patients because of the medicine recycling project in 2009.
Of this: some 10 million shekel worth went to over 800 cancer patients, another 3 million shekel helped about 3000 chronically ill patients.
By opening a chessed pharmacy, having all of the same criteria that a legal pharmacy has, that will enable us to obtain medications from companies at very low prices or even free of charge, as well as those that are up to one year before the date of expiration. It will cost us approximately 1,098,469 NIS to open this pharmacy including equipment, rent, software and salaries. For a hydraulic lift to be included it is an extra 245,300 NIS.
This will increase the quantities of medications that we will be able to give away. We can thereby double the number of patients whom we can reach. There are so many requests we can hardly withstand the pressure.
This will not be a normal drug store, where medicines are sold, but rather one that is closed to the public: where packages of medications are sent to those who are on our list as being eligible to receive.
"Haverim-Friends for Health" plans to eventually open three such pharmacies: in the north, the center, and the south of Israel. Our objective is for at least one to be up and running by Rosh Hashana.
