Yuval Levy for Children with OMS
Yuval Levy was born a healthy baby. At the age of one year (after a vaccination), he started to shake and to convulse. He stopped crawling and sitting. In tests that were done in hospitals in Israel, nothing was found to explain Yuval's symptoms. Finally, when his parents went with him to Dr. Blumkin at Wolfson Hospital it turned out he is suffering from OMS, a very rare disease that affects 1 in 5 million children.
Here in Israel there are another five children with it! It typifies itself by a regression in development and other extreme manifestations. In 50% of the babies afflicted with OMS, the illness is accompanied by cancerous growths that can result in death!!
There is only one doctor (!!!) in all of Israel who knows the illness and knows how to treat it: Dr. Blumkin. The typical treatment is chemotherapy combined with injections of a high dosage of steroids twice a week for three years!!
These treatments are very difficult, during which the babies are exposed to years of suffering.
Yuval and other OMS patients need to travel to America for testing and diagnosis, something that can only be done there by Professor Pranzatelli. Because of the chemotherapy, their immune system is very weak, and as a result the non-sterile environment on the airplane poses a risk of death for them.
In Israel there is a terrible lack of knowledge and parents of babies that are suffering from OMS are establishing a childcare research center which will be opening at the Institute for Medical Genetics at Wolfson Hospital. This institute will be capable of performing the above-mentioned test and early diagnosis for other babies suffering from the same illness but frequently being misdiagnosed because of this lack of knowledge. Some of the babies do not respond to the treatment and therefore other avenues have to be investigated to save their lives: Yuval is one of these.
Your prompt, tax-deductible donation is the only possibility for saving Yuval Levy's life so he can recover and live a better life like other children his age.
