2008 – A Short Summary

Funds

We opened approximately 145 life-saving funds in 2008.
50 of them were for urgent operations overseas.
35 patients managed to raise the full amount needed for their overseas trips and returned on the road to recovery.
Total funds raised: $3,140,000
The other funds were launched to purchase expensive medications and treatments (at a cost of approximately $1 million) not included in the State health care package.

Medications Recycling Project

We facilitated the exchange of more than $1.5 million of expensive medicines during 2008. Most of the meds were for cancer patients and other life-threatening diseases.
We sent 540 medication packages (a $70,000 value) to adult chronic sufferers unable to afford them themselves.

Legal/Medical Aid

35 new lawyers volunteered their services to help sick people in 2008.
They dealt with approximately 70 cases completely pro bono (at a real cost of over $65,000.) 118 patients were able to consult with a volunteer lawyer about a National Insurance related issue.
